We are looking for a Site Manager to oversee all O&M activities at the Paleisheuwel Solar Plant and any future projects constructed within a reasonable distance from the Paleisheuwel Solar Plant.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Manage the maintenance and operations of the plant(s).
- Coordinate plant activities following EGP Safety, Environment, and Quality rules and procedures, aiming to ensure zero accidents.
- Act as the custodian of occupational health, safety, and environmental standards for the plant(s), supported by the Health, Safety, Environment, and Quality (HSEQ) department. Ensure all legal aspects related to plant equipment are covered.
- Provide statutory compliance for machinery, equipment, and facilities.
- With support from your plant subordinates, plan and execute scheduled and corrective maintenance work.
- Coordinate, supervise, and report on the daily activities of site contractors.
- Maintain traceable maintenance and inspection progress statistics and reports.
- Provide communication platforms for supporting departments (Local Control Room [LCR], Technical Support, Performance Improvement departments, auditors, Human Resources, and HSEQ).
- Coordinate technical and/or operational meetings with the Operations and Maintenance Contractors.
- Manage relationships with local stakeholders, landowners, community consortiums, and interactions.
- Coordinate job creation and preferential expenditures with the Community Liaison Officer (CLO).
- Utilise support from EGP Technical Departments such as Maintenance and Technical Support (MTS), Support for Operations and Performance Improvement (SOPI), and the Solar Competency Centre (SCC) to share and escalate technical problems and seek solutions.
- Use plant management software tools to enhance productivity and efficiency.
- Provide innovative interactions and implement strategies to improve safety, productivity, reliability, and the performance of local service providers.
- Manage plant logistics and warehouse spare parts.
- Coordinate plant activities to maintain equipment contractual availability and consistently perform at optimal levels.
- Develop maintenance schedules in line with O&M specifications.
- Liaise with Eskom, local municipality, community liaison officer, Technology Support Engineers, and the LCR regarding plant uptime and activities.
- Manage plant personnel to foster their development and ensure maximum effort for plant activities.
- Structure personnel, fleet, and technological services to support and respond to plant operations at all times.
- Manage all contracts and services to ensure the best results.
- Handle finance applications and monthly reporting.
- Authorise, permit, and supervise MV/HV switching operations for maintenance and inspection purposes.
- Perform regular, traceable inspections of plant equipment/assets for quality and safety.
- Prepare plant reports to keep O&M fully informed about plant performance, results, criticalities, and other necessary information for optimal plant operation.
- Ensure all components related to plant and substation communications are in order (including spares), and collect and quantify data from different sources.
Desired Experience & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related technical-scientific field with an accredited engineering qualification.
- Government Certificate of Competency for Factories (GCC [Factories]) is compulsory.
- Knowledge of solar technology will be an advantage.
- Understanding of national and international contracts for services and materials in the energy sector.
- Experience in the operation and maintenance of HV/MV equipment and systems.
- Knowledge of South Africa’s grid code compliance is advantageous.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and other South African official languages.
Package & Remuneration
- Contract Period: 2 months (client may extend the contract or convert it to a permanent position after 2 months)
- Salary: R52,083.00 per month
- Ability and willingness to travel and undertake temporary assignments at different locations within South Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa.
- Location: Paleisheuwel Solar Plant, Cederberg Local Municipality, Western Cape.
