We are seeking a Solar Data Specialist within the Global O&M Solar Technical Line, who will be part of the Technical Services – Predictive Maintenance Team. This role involves monitoring and reporting on software for operation and maintenance, with a focus on data analysis.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Oversee the data analytics function for solar technology across the fleet.
- Conduct data analysis using information extracted from internal plant assets’ electronic and software systems.
- Manage equipment lifespan by monitoring, tracking, and managing performance through data analysis.
- Transform technical data into actionable information for predictive maintenance and production management.
- Implement mechanisms or systems using data analytics to enhance plant sustainability, maintainability, and extend plant lifespan.
- Collaborate with technical peers to integrate data analysis with technology strategies, technical issues, and projects.
- Ensure effective data analysis to maintain plant reliability and availability.
- Utilise internal Business Intelligence tools to track asset reliability, availability, and performance.
- Analyse statistical data from assets to inform and trigger appropriate maintenance actions and decision-making.
- Monitor data availability KPIs to meet high company standards.
- Report on analysis results and findings, and proactively drive solutions to completion.
- Use data results to advocate for and implement technical improvements at the plant level.
- Coordinate the implementation of technical improvements with local and Solar O&M Global Support.
- Work with relevant internal departments or service providers to enhance data quality and connectivity solutions.
- Escalate findings and faults to the appropriate functional areas and ensure prioritisation of solutions.
- Maximise asset operational availability, improving reliability, and enhancing worker safety.
- Optimise overall plant equipment maintenance by using plant data to mitigate risks of sudden breakdowns, reduce unnecessary maintenance, and prevent unplanned failures.
- Lead initiatives related to Solar Technology’s data quality and availability.
- Use data analysis to inform, influence, and optimise time and cost impacts of maintenance activities.
- Support scheduled maintenance (e.g., repairs) during non-peak times as part of a production mitigation strategy.
- Conduct inspections and quality assessments on plant equipment, managing issues to enable preventative maintenance and improve data availability.
- Provide technical support to validate spare parts compatibility, identify auxiliaries of main components, and analyse failures in replaced materials.
- Develop processes for predictive and corrective maintenance of solar technology.
Desired Experience & Qualifications:
Required Skills & Experience:
- Degree in Electrical/Mechanical/Industrial/IT Engineering or equivalent.
- Electrical/Mechanical or ICT Engineer (ECSA Pr. Eng. or equivalent) or Technologist (ECSA Pr. Technologist).
- At least 4-6 years of experience in the electrical, ICT, utilities, or manufacturing maintenance industry.
- Experience with monitoring and reporting software for operation and maintenance data analysis.
- Strong background in the energy sector, preferably in renewable solar energy.
- At least 2 years of experience in preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance of plants.
Knowledge & Experience:
- Strong technical knowledge of wind turbines, data analytics, communication and automation networks, and rotating machines.
- Proficiency in technical analysis and investigation, including root cause analysis techniques.
- Familiarity with SCADA systems.
- Technical report writing skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.).
- Fluent in English, both spoken and written.
Package & Remuneration:
- Salary: R43,125 per month.
- Contract Period: 2 months (with potential for extension or conversion to permanent employment).
- Location: Sandton.
