There was a quest to find Italy’s finest artist to paint for St. Peter’s. An emissary was sent to Florence to collect drawings from many masters. One morning he arrived at Giotto’s workshop and requested a drawing. Giotto took a sheet of paper, dipped his brush in paint and, with one twist of his wrist, drew a perfect circle freehand. “Is this the only drawing I’m to have?” asked the emissary. “It’s more than enough”, answered Giotto. “Send it along and you’ll see whether it’s understood”.
